The print depicts a scene from the Greek myth of Leda and the Swan, where the god Jupiter (Zeus) transforms into a swan to seduce Leda, the Queen of Sparta. The engraving records a lost fresco composition painted by Antonio Verrio for the King’s Closet at Windsor Castle between 1675 and 1684.
